Rabbi Levy was raised in Teaneck, New Jersey and graduated from Amherst College. He attended the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York and Jerusalem. He graduated from HUC-JIR with honors in 1980, completing his Master's thesis on the political Zionism of Martin Buber.

Rabbi Levy began his pulpit career at Temple Israel in St. Louis, and continued serving congregations in Texas. He was the spiritual leader of congregations in Galveston, Kingwood, and Clear Lake, Texas. In 2002 Rabbi Levy was invited to become the first full time rabbi for the Wood River Jewish community, the second largest Jewish congregation in Idaho.

The WRJC, located in Ketchum, Idaho is a diverse community of Jews who created a strong relationship to the Episcopal Church in Ketchum. Under Rabbi Levy's guidance, the congregation created a vibrant educational program, which developed adult education classes led by our Rabbi and leaders of the church. During his tenure at the Wood River Jewish Community, the congregation grew from sixty families to more than two hundred member units.

Throughout his work with the Idaho community, Rabbi Levy established a successful endowment fund which contributed to the long term future of the congregation. In 2010, Rabbi Levy became the spiritual leader of Beit Tikva Congregation.

Throughout his rabbinical career, our Rabbi has been actively involved in creative writing and his essays and articles have appeared in Midstream, The New York Times, The American Rabbi, and Response magazine, as well as two full length anthologies. Rabbi Leby also taught Philosophy and World Religions at Kingwood College and the University of Houston
